"The Prison" written by Bernard Malamud, was about a man called Tommy Castelli who was obliged to work in a candy shop and to marry a woman that he does not love. In this essay the themes, which are "Life as prision" and "Hope for a change", will be analysed. The theme was "Life as prision" because althougt he did not go to prision, his life become one. Tommy feels that his life was like a prision because he married with a woman he did not love and he work in a job that he did not choose.
